🎚️ How to prepare your group stems correctly
What is a stem group?
A group stem is an audio file that groups together several similar or complementary tracks. For example, all your drums in one file, all your synths in another, etc.
The 7 recommended groups
Here is a classic and effective organization (adapt according to your production):
- Kicks (all your kicks individually)
- Drums (snare, hi-hats, percs, etc.)
- Bass (bass, sub-bass)
- Melodic (melodic instruments: pianos, guitars, leads, etc.)
- Synths/Pads (pads, atmospheres, textures)
- Vocals (lead and backing vocals)
- FX (sound effects, impacts, transitions)
Note: You can have fewer than 7 groups if your production is simpler. The important thing is that each group has a coherent sound.
File format
- Export each group individually
- Maximum 7 groups for this service
- WAV format only
- Same sample rate and bit depth as your original project (minimum 44.1kHz / 24-bit)
- All stems must be the same length and start at 0:00
Headroom: -2 to -3dB required
Headroom represents the space available between the loudest peak of your audio and 0dB (the digital maximum).
Why is this important? It gives me the headroom to process your audio without distortion or digital saturation.
How to do this? Lower the group volume so that the highest peak reaches -2 or -3dB maximum.
Essential technical rules
✅ TO DO:
- Clearly name each group (e.g. "Drums", "Bass", "Vocals", "Synths")
- Keep your initial mix : balance, panning, creative effects
- Keep the creative treatments essential to your sound (creative delays, artistic reverbs)
- Remove reverbs and delays , unless they are not essential to your sound
- Remove or disable sidechains and non-creative technical effects (compressors, group limiters)
- Export from the exact start of the project (time 0:00)
- Check that all stems are exactly the same length
❌ DON’T:
-
Hit the red (no clipping/digital distortion)
- Export groups with very unbalanced levels between them

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the delivery time? Maximum 10 working days after receipt of compliant files.
How do I organize my groups if my production is different? The proposed organization is flexible. The important thing is to group the elements logically (e.g., all rhythmic elements together, all vocals together, etc.).
What if I have more than 7 groups? Try merging some similar groups. If that's really not possible, contact us for a personalized quote.
Is it better than traditional stereo mastering? Yes, because it allows for more precise adjustments to each element while preserving your mix. It's an excellent compromise between control and efficiency.
Can I send a stereo mix in addition to the stems? Yes, it's even recommended! This allows me to understand your initial vision and get as close as possible to it.
What happens if my files are not compliant? We will contact you to guide you in the correct preparation of your group stems.
